LOS ANGELES, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The Inaugural Purple Ball is delighted and honored to announce that UNCF--the United Negro College Fund--will be the beneficiary organization for the Ball, to be held at the Fairmont Hotel in Washington DC on Inauguration night, January 20th.
UNCF, the nation's largest and most effective minority education organization supports more than 60,000 students at over 900 colleges and universities across the country. To serve youth, the community and the nation, UNCF supports students' education and development through scholarships and other programs, strengthens its 39 member colleges and universities and advocates for the importance of minority education.
Asal Masomi, the Inaugural Purple Ball's Chair, and Michael L. Lomax, Ph.D, UNCF's President and Chief Executive Officer, made the announcement today.
Ms. Masomi stated, "It is a privilege to have an esteemed organization like UNCF as our partner. UNCF's mission and purpose are perfectly aligned with the historic occasion of the election of this nation's first African American president. President-Elect Obama has made it clear that making college accessible to all Americans is one of his highest priorities, and UNCF has done more to make progress on this important front than any other organization. We are so pleased to have Dr. Lomax's support, participation and attendance at the Inaugural Purple Ball, since the purpose of our Ball is to celebrate diversity."
