FORT WORTH, TX UNITED STATES
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- HEALTHeCAREERS Network, an
onTargetjobs Inc. company, has committed $15,000 in scholarship funds to the
American Society of Radiologic Technologists' (ASRT) Education and Research
Foundation. The contribution will help provide advanced-training scholarships
to radiologic technologists (R.T.s) nationwide.
As the philanthropic arm of the American Society of Radiologic
Technologists, the foundation provides scholarship opportunities for R.T.s to
expand their clinical and management skills, which will transfer to improved
patient care. This is critical for the growth of the profession because R.T.s
need to stay current in a field where basic imaging has moved from x-ray
tubes, film and chemicals to digital acquisition and computer processing.
"HEALTHeCAREERS Network's corporate contribution will assist ASRT's
foundation in providing necessary support to radiologic technologists who
administer crucial imaging examinations and radiation therapy treatments,"
said Wes Crews, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Niche Markets.
"ASRT is the largest radiologic science organization in the world with more
than 130,000 members, and HEALTHeCAREERS is proud to support its foundation's
vital educational programs."
While demand outweighs the number of professionals in many healthcare
disciplines, radiologic technologists face unique challenges, such as
constantly changing technology and the need for management professionals.
Updated technology continues to raise the bar of excellence and
expectations for education and skill level among R.T.s., Janet McEwen, ASRT
Foundation Director of Development and Corporate Relations said. "As
technology advances at a rapid pace, R.T.s must continuously learn new
strategies and techniques in the workplace. Plus, many R.T.s are pursuing
advanced degrees for promotion into management; therefore, they have to learn
the skills necessary to become leaders in the profession."
HEALTHeCAREERS Network's pledge to ASRT will be delivered early next year
and will be distributed as $1,500 scholarships.
"In 2008, we awarded 59 entry-level and professional scholarships for a
total of $221,750," McEwen said. "With this gift from HEALTHeCAREERS Network,
we can provide more professionals with the boost they need to complete their
bachelor's, master's or doctoral degrees. We are grateful to HEALTHeCAREERS
Network for helping us jump-start this important program."
