SMC Networks' Managed Service Platforms will Incorporate Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Server offerings, including Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V to Ensure Seamless Integration Into Existing SMB and Enterprise Network Infrastructures
AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- SMC Networks(R), a leading provider of advanced, high performance networking solutions for the SMB and enterprise markets, today announced at the SC Conference (booth 1741) that its new family of Managed Service Platform products, which are scheduled for release in Q4 2008, will include Microsoft's next-generation hypervisor-based server virtualization solution, Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V. In addition, the shipping SMC Managed Service Platforms will also include Windows Storage Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 Standard and Windows Unified Data Storage Server, to deliver ease-of-installation and seamless integration into existing network infrastructures.
SMC's Managed Service Platform family, which will enable Value-Added Resellers (VARs) and IT administrators to remotely manage, monitor and support multiple SMC Switch networks, will leverage the ease-of-use and advanced technology inherent to Microsoft's server operating systems to deliver to market a complete solution that provides the high-performance, advanced features and enhanced manageability demanded by SMB and enterprise users alike.
When installed into a company's LAN, the Managed Service Platform enables IT administrators to remotely monitor the network through a secure Web portal and minimizes equipment downtime by delivering alerts and visibility to LAN performance, bulk firmware updates, multiple client locations, and allow for proactive support response. Most Managed Service Platform models will incorporate hard drives enabling IT administrators to store and automatically deploy firmware updates to SMC managed network devices and conduct patch management.
"SMC's new Managed Service Platforms will help provide customers with convenient access to the powerful capabilities of the Windows Server family, including virtualization through Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V, helping them easily access this exciting new technology and drive down costs," said Mike Schutz, Director of Product Management, Windows Server virtualization at Microsoft. "IT administrators not only look for innovation and value in selecting new hardware, but they also need solutions that integrate seamlessly with the existing infrastructure and by standardizing on the Microsoft Windows Server platforms, SMC is ensuring that their solutions will integrate quickly and easily within existing Windows IT infrastructures and enable administrators to utilize their existing skills."
"We are pleased to be able to incorporate the Microsoft Server solutions into our exciting, new Managed Service Platform product family," explained Keith Alexis, vice president of sales for SMC Networks. "With the vast majority of network infrastructures being based on Microsoft operating systems, it was critical for us to deliver a solution that would integrate quickly and seamlessly into our customers' existing networks. In addition, the Microsoft Server solutions bring a variety of features and benefits that enhance performance, increase security and enhance the manageability of our products in the network."
