SMC Networks Incorporates OpenOnload Technology Into 10G Server Adapter Cards to Maximize Network Host I/O Performance

OpenOnload Reduces Network Overhead, Latency and Jitter to Provide Significant Gains in Performance for Applications Such as High Performance Computing, Cluster Computing, and Business and Finance

AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- SMC Networks(R), a leading provider of advanced, high performance networking solutions for the SMB and enterprise markets, today announced at the SC Conference (booth 1741) that it has incorporated Solarflare Communications' performance-enhancing OpenOnload technology to its family of 10Gbps server adapter cards enabling SMB and enterprise users to maximize the input/output performance from the host server for time-sensitive and performance-critical applications such as cluster computing, high-performance computing and real-time business applications.

OpenOnload, available as Open Source technology, is supported by the driver set for the TigerCard(TM) 10G SMC10GPCIe range of network adapters. This technology is a network architecture that significantly reduces network overheads, latency and jitter, resulting in significant gains in transaction rates, CPU efficiency and improved application-level performance. Ideal for deployment in applications for which network I/O performance at the host is critical, OpenOnload can double UDP multicast bandwidth and improve small message rates by a factor of six.

"We're excited that SMC has stepped forward as the first major vendor to use our OpenOnload technology in their 10G networking solutions as their adoption of our technology validates the performance-enhancing value that it delivers to support today's bandwidth-intensive, time-sensitive business applications," stated Bruce Tolley, vice president of marketing at Solarflare Communications. "One of the great benefits of our OpenOnload technology is that it doesn't have to be implemented at both ends of the network connection. Organizations using SMC's 10G adapter cards can easily implement our technology at their server and realize significant improvements in application and network performance."

"The ability to offer to our customers the performance enhancements provided by OpenOnload technology through our family of 10G adapter cards brings an incredible amount of value to the growing client base of SMBs and enterprises that are adopting our 10G networking solutions," explained Iain Kenney, director of product marketing for SMC Networks. "Though SMC enjoys a strong reputation in the industry for delivering to market solutions that provide the critical combination of performance, feature sets and value, the addition of the revolutionary OpenOnload technology helps to further establish our brand as a leader of innovative, high-performance networking solutions for growing companies of all sizes."
