Ottumwa's Crisis Center and Women's Shelter, and Verizon to Announce Partnership on Oct. 26 to Assist Victims of Domestic Violence in Iowa
First Lady Mari Culver to Take Part in Domestic Violence Awareness Month Event to Announce New Campaign
OTTUMWA, Iowa, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- In commemoration of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Iowa First Lady Mari Culver will announce on Oct. 26 a $10,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Verizon, to Ottumwa's Crisis Center and Women's Shelter. The grant will fund a domestic violence prevention social-marketing campaign to raise awareness of services available to female victims of domestic violence and help at-risk individuals develop skills needed to create healthy relationships.

BACKGROUND: The campaign will develop brochures and advertising materials
to raise awareness of services to support victims of domestic violence,
and provide in person presentations of these issues. The Women's Shelter
will partner with representatives of key target groups to assist in
creating relevant, up-to-date collateral materials. A key feature of the
campaign will include developing and maintaining a Web page and utilizing
social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook.
