Mainframe Software Leader Extends Commitment to Leading User Group
ISLANDIA, N.Y., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CA (Nasdaq: CA) today announced that Reg Harbeck, its product management director for Mainframe Strategy, has been appointed to the board of directors of SHARE Inc., the world's largest association of corporate users of enterprise IT.
This appointment extends CA's long-standing working relationship with SHARE, which supports the IBM mainframe user community. Next to IBM, CA is the leading vendor participant in SHARE in terms of both conference attendance and the SHARE Technology Exchange. Many CA employees serve as volunteers for SHARE program and project teams and present sessions on a variety of technical topics at every SHARE conference. In August, Chris O'Malley, executive vice president and general manager of CA's Mainframe Business Unit, became the first executive from an independent software vendor in 10 years to deliver a SHARE keynote.
Harbeck, who has been an active participant at SHARE since 1999, joins the SHARE Board of Directors as deputy director of Community Development. He will be responsible for SHARE's efforts to foster and sustain technical communities with interests in the enterprise IT arena.
"With today's global mainframe renaissance, SHARE has a more important role than ever in ensuring that IT professionals have the expanded knowledge and insight they need," said Harbeck. "I look forward to participating in the growth of SHARE as it helps guide the future of the IT industry."
According to Pamela Taylor, SHARE president, Harbeck brings special skills to this role from his participation in the development of zNextGen, a community of professionals who are new to mainframe technology. Harbeck has been actively engaged in the growth of zNextGen from its original 30 to its current membership of 550 individuals from around the world. He is one of three new SHARE board members.
SHARE is an independent, volunteer-run association providing IBM customers with user-focused education, professional networking and a forum to influence the information technology industry. Since 1955, SHARE has enabled IT professionals to achieve business results through a combination of credible, relevant programs and peer opportunities. SHARE currently counts more than 2,100 organizations among its active member ranks.
