Includes CA Mainframe Software Manager and More Than 165 Solutions Across 18 Different Mainframe Management Categories
ISLANDIA, N.Y., Sept. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CA (Nasdaq: CA) today announced "Day One" support for z/OS(R) V1.11 across its extensive line of mainframe management software solutions, continuing its long history of timely coordination with new releases of IBM(R) System z(R) operating systems.
CA is supporting IBM z/OS V1.11 across more than 165 mainframe management solutions in 18 functional categories.
These solutions include CA Mainframe Software Manager (CA MSM), which can dramatically simplify and speed CA mainframe product installation and maintenance. By taking advantage of CA MSM's capabilities, customers can ease the upgrade process and accelerate time-to-benefit for their move to z/OS V1.11.
In addition, CA's solutions for z/OS V1.11 deliver the benefits of its Mainframe 2.0 initiative -- which enables IT organizations to reap greater business value from mainframe investments, while equipping a new generation of IT staff to assume responsibility for mainframe operations as experienced senior mainframe managers approach retirement.
CA actively participated in IBM's Early Support Program for z/OS V1.11 and installed the new version of the operating system in its own data center as part of its overall effort to provide customers with optimal "Day One" support.
Examples of CA's exploitation of z/OS V1.11 include:
CA ACF2(TM) and CA Top Secret(R) have been enhanced to control program object signing and signature verification, capabilities that can be used to verify the integrity of program objects in PDSE libraries. The signature can confirm both authenticity and authorization, which helps in demonstrating proof of origin and verification. In addition, support for the latest Distributed Identity Propagation, which authenticates and maps a person on a distributed platform to a z/OS userid, helps organizations maintain accurate enterprise-wide user identities for compliance reporting and streamlined operations.
CA IDMS(TM) enables customers to store huge datasetsusing the EAS area on Extended Access Volumes. This can help reduce address space storage requirements and simplify backup and recovery when multi-file database areas are combined into a single large file.
"We always appreciate the fact that CA delivers immediate support for IBM z/OS upgrades," said Bob Wiklund, secretary/treasurer of the IUA (IDMS User Association). "This immediate support enables us to quickly take advantage of the latest z/OS enhancements--so that we can keep scaling the performance of our largest, most business-critical databases."
A significant factor in CA's ability to consistently provide Day One support for new operating system releases such as z/OS V1.11 is its employment of advanced development and quality assurance methodologies. These methodologies facilitate central management of integration across product lines and global operations, enabling rapid delivery of high-quality management solutions designed to interoperate seamlessly with IBM's flagship mainframe operating system.
"Our immediate support of the latest version of IBM's z/OS operating system again demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the future of this uniquely reliable, scalable, secure, and energy-efficient enterprise computing platform," said Chris O'Malley, executive vice president and general manager of CA's Mainframe Business Unit. "This commitment is underscored by the innovative solutions such as CA MSM and other Mainframe 2.0 deliverables, which significantly augment the mainframe's already highly-compelling value proposition."
Customers have been relying on CA management solutions for IBM mainframes to optimize value and help reduce cost of ownership for more than three decades. The benefits of these management solutions have become even more important to IT organizations as mainframe workloads have skyrocketed in recent years--while experienced mainframe administrators are retiring and budget pressures continue to limit IT headcount.
CA (Nasdaq: CA), the world's leading independent IT management software company, helps customers optimize IT for better business results. CA's Enterprise IT Management solutions for mainframe and distributed computing enable Lean IT--empowering organizations to more effectively govern, manage and secure their IT operations.
