FiLife's 'Fix Healthcare in Three Words' Twitter Contest Reveals Money is the Key Issue
NEW YORK, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- FiLife (www.FiLife.com), the leading personal and family finance community online, today announced that public concerns about costs dominated its "Fix Healthcare in Three Words Twitter Contest."
As President Obama continues to push for healthcare reform, highlighted by his recent address to Congress earlier this month, FiLife, a joint venture between Dow Jones & Company and IAC (Nasdaq: IACI), recently asked participants to tweet their three-word opinions on how to fix the healthcare system. The contest, which ran from September 9th to 16th, reached more than 100,000 Twitter followers.
Based on the total submissions, "free" was the most commonly used word. "Real price competition" and "Medicare for all" were two of the top financial suggestions, while "eat better food" and "do unto others" were the most popular lifestyle entries. From "everyone deserves healthcare" and "compassion not profit" to "quit being wusses" and "leave it alone," contest submissions reflected the controversial and divisive nature of the healthcare reform debate.
On a recent edition of NPR's All Things Considered, two prominent medical and health experts offered their own three-word suggestions. Dr. James Rohack, president of the American Medical Association, suggested "quality affordable coverage," while Wendell Porter, former Health Insurance Executive at the Center for Media and Democracy, proposed "American health security."
"While healthcare reform is about many things, its effect on family finances is at the center of the debate," said Ezra Kurcharz, President and General Manager of FiLife. "With its strong engagement and reach, the 'Fix Healthcare' contest is an excellent example of how FiLife is fostering the most robust personal finance community on the Web."
