Chattanooga Launches Nation's Largest Municipal Fiber Initiative
Fiber Optics is Key to the Region's Economic Development
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- EPB, the city's electric utility, today launched their fiber optics initiative that will, upon completion, offer EPB Fiber Optics services to more than 168,000 homes and businesses in a 600 square-mile area that includes the City of Chattanooga, Hamilton County and Northwest Georgia - giving residents the opportunity to experience next generation advanced communications services (Fi-Speed Internet, Fi Phone and Fi TV) on a network that will enable a state-of-the-art Smart Grid. This represents the largest 100 percent fiber offering of any public municipality across the country.
EPB currently has services available to 17,000 homes and businesses with plans to have services available to their entire service area within a span of three years.
