Independent Lab Names CA as Winner in Every Round of Tests, Giving CA ARCserve Backup and CA XOsoft High Availability "World Class Award" for Best Data Protection and Application Uptime

ISLANDIA, N.Y., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CA (Nasdaq: CA) today announced CA ARCserve(R) Backup beat Symantec(TM) Backup Exec(TM) by a large margin in a competitive review conducted by Network Testing Labs (NTL), scoring much higher overall and in individual categories for backup, restore, application availability, performance, ease-of-use, and deployment.

The study commissioned by CA and conducted by NTL -- which performs independent technology research and product evaluations -- found that CA ARCserve Backup and CA XOsoft(TM) High Availability emerged as the winner against Symantec's Backup Exec and Veritas(TM) Cluster Server in every round of tests.

NTL gave both CA ARCserve Backup and CA XOsoft High Availability their "World Class Award" for best data protection and best application uptime.

"We intensively stress-tested these products to decide which one customers could trust with mission-critical data," said Barry Nance, president of Network Testing Labs, who has evaluated thousands of hardware and software products for publications like Computerworld, BYTE Magazine, Government Computer News, PC Magazine, Network Computing, and Network World. "CA's ARCserve and XOsoft came out on top in everything from ease of use to performance, scalability, granularity and reliability."

NTL also found that both CA ARCserve Backup and CA XOsoft High Availability are easier to set up and configure, support more platforms, are more secure and require far less storage space than Backup Exec and Veritas Cluster Server.

"Customers need to provide for data protection, integrity and application availability," said Adam Famularo, senior vice president and general manager for CA's Recovery Management and Data Modeling Business Unit. "We are pleased that rigorous testing proved we are delivering the best products to help solve these customer needs."
