Fall Festivals Feature Florida's Arts, Culture

Autumn Tides Celebration Highlights Local Artists, Travel Deals

WALTON COUNTY, Fla., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The artist community of Beaches of South Walton, located along Northwest Florida's Gulf Coast, celebrates the fall during Autumn Tides, an unforgettable season of events from September through November. Commencing Labor Day weekend, Autumn Tides showcases the thriving, vibrant art scene in Beaches of South Walton and helps usher in a season spectacular fall sunsets, cooler temperatures and off-season rates.

"It's no coincidence that some of the most engaging arts communities are located along the water, since artists seek out creative environments in which to do their work," said Sonny Mares, executive director of the Walton County Tourist Development Council. "Our homegrown talent mixes easily with big-city transplants all looking for their muse along our sugar-white sand beaches and natural environments. Our goal is to introduce visitors to the talented artists we have in our own backyard."

Enriching Events

A myriad of culinary and art events are available for visitors to the Beaches of South Walton during Autumn Tides including:

  • First Friday Art Walk at Ruskin Place (Sept. 4, Oct. 2, Nov. 6), a lovely stroll through Seaside, which is featuring special shows at the art galleries combined with live music, food and drink.
  • Autumn Tides Month at Silver Sands (Oct. 1-31), where shoppers may receive a limited edition "Autumn Tides" print by local artist and former artist-of-the-year Donna Burgess by presenting $300 in same-day receipts at shopper services.
  • Autumn Playwright Festival (Oct. 7-17), the Seaside Repertory Theatre's annual homage to a major playwright through panel discussions, staged readings, and a full-scale production. This year honors 2005 Nobel Prize-winner Harold Pinter.
  • Flutterby Festival (Nov. 14-15), held in WaterColor this year, the annual family festival hosted by the Cultural Arts Association celebrates the colorful migration of the Monarch butterfly through the region and features talented local and regional artists as well as hands on art projects for children.
  • Mountain Film on Tour (Nov. 6), at WaterColor's Marina Park Amphitheatre, features an array of films, filmmakers, and familiar faces from MountainFilm in Telluride, and provides education and enlightenment about issues that face the world today.
