Owens Corning Names Daniel T. Smith Senior Vice President of Human Resources
 

TOLEDO, Ohio, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Owens Corning (NYSE: OC), a world leader in building materials and glass fiber reinforcements, today announced the appointment of Daniel T. Smith to the position of senior vice president, human resources. Mr. Smith will begin his new position with Owens Corning on Sept. 14.

Mr. Smith has held leadership positions in human resources for more than 20 years. He joins Owens Corning from Borders Group, Inc. (NYSE: BGP), a worldwide retailer of books and media. He most recently served as executive vice president and chief administrative officer, where he successfully led global human resource functions and was instrumental in developing talent. He also oversaw information technology, communications, purchasing, and loss prevention functions. Before that, Mr. Smith served as executive vice president of human resources.

Mr. Smith began his career with Borders Group in 1995 as director of compensation and benefits. Prior to joining Borders Group, Mr. Smith spent nearly nine years at The May Department Stores Company, where he was responsible for human resources and operations.

Mr. Smith received his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., and his Master of Arts degree in human resource management from Washington University in St. Louis. Mr. Smith served as chairman of both the HR Forum and Merrill Lynch client advisory boards.
