Enterprises and Service Providers Get Greater Business Value from Virtualization with CA's Enterprise IT Management Solutions
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- (VMworld, Moscone Center) -- CA, Inc. (Nasdaq: CA) today announced that it is showcasing its integrated virtualization management solutions for VMware environments at VMworld 2009.
"Virtualization can dramatically increase the value IT delivers to the business - if it is effectively managed," said Tom Kendra, corporate senior vice president of Strategy and Business Development for CA. "With our holistic approach to service modeling, assurance, automation and security, organizations can better optimize business services in fast-growing, dynamic VMware environments."
"CA's comprehensive set of virtualization management tools, which integrate with and support VMware vSphere(TM) 4, help enterprises and service providers develop a business-driven data center," said Shekar Ayyar, vice president, infrastructure alliances, VMware. "CA's solutions for VMware environments enable both types of customers to transform their business by delivering new levels of service quality, efficiency, agility and risk reduction."
As a result of CA's collaboration with VMware in the VMware Ready(TM) program, customers have available to them a broad set of Enterprise IT Management tools that are integrated with the VMware vCenter(TM) Product Family. Among the solutions CA will demonstrate at VMworld are:
Unified Service Availability and Performance Management: CA Spectrum((R)) Infrastructure Manager, CA eHealth((R)) Performance Manager and CA Wily Application Performance Manager, combined with VMware vCenter Server, provides the power of CA's integrated, cross-platform infrastructure and end user experience monitoring and transaction management with VMware vCenter monitoring and performance management for the VMware vSphere 4 platform. This combination helps enable customers to use a single pane of glass to discover, visualize and manage performance, isolate faults, conduct powerful root cause and impact analysis, track virtual machine movement and view utilization. The integration also provides the capability to model business services relying on virtual infrastructure, and conduct service impact and service root cause analysis for business services and their components in virtualized infrastructures.
Automated Application Release and Provisioning Management: CA Spectrum((R)) Automation Manager combined with VMware vCenter Lab Manager helps automate the application release process from pre-production through production. CA Spectrum Automation Manager helps orchestrate and automate the process of migrating an application through a development and test environment and then into production. It leverages VMware Lab Manager for environment staging and release promotion. CA Spectrum Automation Manager also helps automate the discovery, configuration and compliance management of VMware environments and provision VMware environments alongside heterogeneous virtual and physical systems and cloud environments.
Integrated Recovery Management: CA ARCserve((R)) Backup and CA XOsoft(TM) provide integrated recovery management for VMware vSphere 4 and the enterprise. CA ARCserve uses the VMware vStorage APIs for data protection to provide virtualization-aware backup of workloads, through the same backup/recovery process and interface it uses for non-virtual backup/recovery. CA XOsoft provides application-aware high availability, including replication, CDP and automated failover, for applications running on the virtual infrastructure.
CA will also provide examples of its products' current and proposed future support for VMware environments, such as:
Unified Information Model: CA is currently planning to broaden the scope of CA Spectrum Infrastructure Manager, CA eHealth Performance Manager and CA Spectrum Automation Manager to support VMware vSphere 4 and the Cisco Nexus((R)) 1000V distributed virtual software switch, which is an integrated option in VMware vSphere 4. The extensive solution will help enable customers to manage their virtual and physical network and systems environments using one user interface and within one powerful unified information model. This is intended to help customers achieve Lean IT by speeding time to problem identification and resolution.
Automated Security: CA Access Control, when integrated with CA Spectrum Automation Manager, helps allow VMware vSphere 4 users to automatically secure their virtual computing environments and streamline their compliance efforts. CA Access Control helps address the specific security and compliance challenges surrounding privileged users and their access, specifically where administrators can access systems, applications and data for which they have no business use. The integration of CA Access Control with CA Spectrum Automation Manager automates the deployment and configuration of CA Access Control agents. The agents manage access and entitlements of privileged users such as system, application and virtualization administrators who need to operate on virtual machines or the VMware ESX console.
Workload Automation: CA AutoSys((R)) Workload Automation helps leverage customers' VMware environments to consolidate workload infrastructure, simplifying management and improving the operational efficiencies in these environments. CA AutoSys Workload Automation, when running in VMware environments, is designed to significantly improve workload and job scheduling efficiency by combining resource and workload policies to dynamically provision workloads to appropriately configured physical or virtual resources (best machine). The solution can also dynamically provision resources with virtual workload requirements, through integration with VMware, utilizing resources only when needed at runtime.
Application Performance Management: CA Wily Application Performance Management (APM) helps provide transaction visibility across physical and virtualized environments, including VMware and cloud systems. With a focus on the business transaction as it flows through today's dynamically changing infrastructure, CA Wily APM can help provide more consistent performance insight for superior triage, problem diagnosis and customer experience management. By combining CA Wily Application Performance Management with virtualization technologies, customers are better able to capitalize on the benefits of virtualization, while also helping to improve the reliability and performance of revenue-generating applications through enhanced visibility.
Service Management: CA Service and IT Asset Management solutions help customers increase the visibility and control needed to maintain service levels, manage changes and understand the relationship of assets to IT services delivered in a VMware environment. These comprehensive solutions help customers discover, inventory and manage virtualized assets. They enable change management and change impact analysis of virtualized systems to help avoid business disruptions due to changes. They aggregate separate virtualized environments into a Service Catalog for service cost, request, and fulfillment.
