Ashworth College Partners With Habitat for Humanity of North Central Georgia to Build Home in North Atlanta Community
NORCROSS, Ga., Aug. 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Ashworth College is teaming up with Habitat for Humanity of North Central Georgia to make a difference in the community and in the lives of one local family.
Ashworth, a leader in online distance education, will sponsor a Habitat for Humanity home located in Alpharetta, GA, helping to make home ownership a reality for a local family.
On August 14, 2009, Gary M. Keisling, Ashworth College Chairman and CEO, will present Habitat for Humanity with a $5,000 contribution at a reception at the build site. Habitat uses donations toward costs associated with building homes, such as purchasing land and building materials.
Included in Ashworth's 2009 Graduation weekend activities, that same day, a group of Ashworth employee volunteers will kick-off this community outreach effort by working on the construction of the home. Approximately 20 Ashworth staff, instructors, graduates, and students are expected to volunteer on this day.
The team of workers will also be joined by Ashworth Alumna and Graduation Ceremony speaker Didiayer Snyder, team designer on the Emmy Award-winning Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Ms. Snyder has completed online programs in both carpentry and interior decorating.
"Ashworth is dedicated to giving back to the communities in which we work and live," said Keisling. "We are proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity to help hard working families fulfill their dreams and provide them with the opportunity to own a home."
Ashworth College was recently issued a Habitat for Humanity campus charter, becoming the not-for-profit's first distance education chapter. As a leader in distance education, Ashworth's student population is located all over the world, making the breadth of an organization like Habitat a natural fit. "Anywhere in the world where an Ashworth student is studying, more than likely there is a local Habitat chapter welcoming our student's time and resources," Keisling added.
"We are grateful for our continuing partnership with Ashworth College," said Bill Campbell, Engagement Specialist for Habitat for Humanity International. "We are two institutions focused on people bettering themselves through hard work."
Ashworth College has long been a supporter of social causes including Dress for Success Atlanta, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, and March of Dimes.
