New VeriCall Edge(R) Connected Multimedia Software Features YouTube Video Playback
Trinity Convergence debuts VeriCall Edge(R) 4.0 software for IP communications and multimedia devices - expands support for rich media, secure communications & intelligent video processing
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Addressing the evolving needs of device manufacturers looking to support the latest IP communications and multimedia capabilities, Trinity Convergence today announced availability of VeriCall Edge(R) 4.0 software. This latest version breaks new ground by delivering a Media Player framework that supports streamed and local playback of today's popular audio and video formats, including YouTube video.
VeriCall Edge software provides consumer electronics manufacturers a comprehensive embedded software platform for rapidly designing multimedia and real-time voice/video communications functionality into IP-connected devices such as Multimedia Tablets, Video Phones, VoIP intercom systems, Digital Photo Frames, Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) and Netbooks / Smartbooks.
"VeriCall Edge 4.0 serves as a response to the growing consumer demand for media phones and other connected multimedia devices that transcend traditional IP voice and video communications," stated David Brown, CTO of Trinity Convergence. "The expanded solution addresses the desire of consumer electronics OEMs to accelerate the development of next generation devices. Integrating new media processing enhancements and support for popular media formats such as YouTube ultimately helps OEMs de-risk their projects by eliminating the exhaustive in-house software integration and validation process."
Market research firm In-Stat, in a 2009 report, describes media phones as the "4th screen" and estimates that consumer media phones will generate $4 - $8 billion in annual revenue, worldwide, by 2013.
VeriCall Edge 4.0 includes a unique Media Quality Module (MQM) that provides video tuning mechanisms designed to deliver the highest quality IP video communications possible over a given network. The ability to deliver media processing, networking technology and quality of service (QoS) components in a single software framework helps OEMs minimize the challenges and risks inherent to embedded software design.
Advanced Features & Functionality in VeriCall Edge 4.0
Media Quality Module -- intelligent media processing controls including Auto Bandwidth Control and Video Error Concealment. The MQM reduces the impact of video packet loss by intelligently monitoring the network and controlling the bit rate of the video stream.
Media Player Framework -- an extensible media player framework that supports both streamed and local playback of multiple audio/video formats; and enables playback functionality to be added to any embedded device. VeriCall Edge provides an API that enables seamless integration of the media player framework to an application. The first release supports YouTube playback and MP3, WMA and AAC music formats. Support for additional video formats to be released in Q4.
Secure Communications Pack -- a comprehensive set of security and encryption technology to enable secure communication paths between IP-connected end-points. Supports secure RTP and data encryption using standard encryption algorithms.
The entire portfolio of VeriCall software solutions provides tightly integrated and interoperability-tested embedded software engines that enable feature-rich, two-way voice and video communications and media playback functionality. The company's flagship product, VeriCall Edge, combines advanced media processing, SIP call control, NAT Traversal technology and QoS functionality into a highly portable software platform. VeriCall software runs on processors from Freescale Semiconductor, Marvell, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments and others.
