Voyager Targets Struggling High School Readers with New Level of Passport Reading Journeys
DALLAS, June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Voyager Expanded Learning(R) announced today that it will offer Passport Reading Journeys(TM) III for the 2009 school year as part of its secondary intervention program series, Passport Reading Journeys. The new level targets high school students who struggle with reading by incorporating motivating and interesting topics, a new online vocabulary component, and providing opportunities to explore careers and content area connections, which will help students be successful in their academic classes and on high-stakes assessments. The Passport Reading Journeys III Library includes a diverse collection of Lexile-leveled novels and short stories, fiction and non-fiction, that work well for either independent or partnered reading.
Aligned to state standards and incorporating recommendations of Reading Next and Academic Literacy Instruction for Adolescents, Passport Reading Journeys III provides effective literacy instruction in comprehension, vocabulary, and writing through exciting content. Like the other levels in the Passport Reading Journeys series, students are taken through two-week Expeditions related to high-interest topics such as graphic arts, fashion, music trends, science fiction and the Internet.
Students stay engaged in learning with the new online vocabulary component called VocabJourney(TM), which allows students easy access to independent reading practice 24/7. Adaptive and interactive, VocabJourney, focuses on increasing academic vocabulary, vocabulary for ELL students through multiple exposures and comprehension. VocabJourney provides additional student support for independent reading through Live Ink, a cutting edge feature that helps students read more comfortably and effectively.
Teachers can regularly monitor student progress through built-in benchmark assessments that ensure students show continual improvement: Reading Benchmark Assessment powered by the Lexile Framework(R), Semester Exams and VocabJourney Progress Reports. Teachers enter assessment information into VPORT(R), Voyager's data management system, at which point they can access instant reports illustrating each student's learning growth to assist with the development of plans. District administrators can also view real-time data at the student, classroom, school, or district level to inform decision-making.
Through their ongoing partnership with Voyager Expanded Learning, teachers also receive year-long service and support with a plan customized to meet district needs.
