Organization's Director of Government Affairs Honored for a 40-Year-Plus Career Spent Advancing the Federal Information Security Profession

SAN FRANCISCO, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- RSA CONFERENCE 2009, Booth #352 -- (ISC)2(R) ("ISC-squared"), the non-profit global leader in educating and certifying information security professionals throughout their careers, today announced that Lynn McNulty, CISSP, (ISC)2 director of government affairs, has been presented with the Hall of Fame Award by the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA). The award, among the most prestigious in the industry, recognizes individuals who provide comprehensive and ongoing contributions to the advancement of the information security profession.

ISSA presented the Hall of Fame Award and several others at its annual membership meeting on April 22, 2009, during the (ISC)2 Member Networking Reception at the RSA Conference in San Francisco, Calif.

"I am truly grateful and humbled to receive this award," stated McNulty, a member of ISSA's Northern Virginia Chapter since 2002. "I have considered myself privileged to be part of a career field as fraught with challenge, yet as professionally and personally rewarding as information security. During his 30-year-plus career as a federal employee, McNulty has played a significant role in the government's rapid progression of information security. Now, in his role as (ISC)2 director of government affairs, he serves as a champion for the federal information security practitioner and advocate for a professionalized federal information security workforce.

"There is no individual in information security today more deserving of Hall of Fame status than Lynn McNulty," said Hord Tipton, CISSP-ISSEP, CAP, CISA, executive director of (ISC)2. "He has been a thought leader and influencer in this industry since the early stages of the IT revolution and has been relentless in his efforts to ensure that information security professionals have the resources, education and recognition that they need to effectively safeguard the country's information assets."

During his career, McNulty served as the first director of Information Systems Security for the U.S. State Department, as security program manager for the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and as a policy liaison for computer security issues between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and other federal agencies, Congress and the private sector. He also played a key role influencing national security policy on everything from export controls on commercial encryption products to the deployment of public key infrastructure.

McNulty helped facilitate the establishment of (ISC)2 in 1989 and served as an (ISC)2 board member. He has since served the organization in a variety of capacities which include director of government affairs, member of the (ISC)2 U.S. Government Executive Writers Bureau and co-chair of the Government Advisory Board for Cyber Security, a volunteer group of 18 senior-level information security professionals from government and industry. He is one of the first individuals ever to receive the exclusive Fellow of (ISC)2, a designation given by the (ISC)2 Board of Directors to influential information security professionals who have made unique and significant contributions to the field throughout their careers.

McNulty is a frequent speaker on the Washington D.C. information security speaking circuit and beyond and is actively pursued by national and local media outlets for commentary on U.S. information security policy and other security-related issues.
