Findings From Verizon Business '2009 Data Breach Investigations Report' to Underscore Presentation
SAN FRANCISCO, April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Peter Tippett, vice president of innovation and technology at Verizon Business, will speak at the RSA Conference on April 24. Tippett's remarks will feature key findings from Verizon's Business' just-released "2009 Data Breach Investigations Report."
WHEN: Friday, April 24, 9 a.m. Pacific time
WHERE: RSA Conference in the Moscone Center, Purple
Room 308
WHO: Dr. Peter Tippett, vice president of
innovation and technology, Verizon Business
WHAT: Although chief security officers have the
heavy burden of protecting corporate
information assets, they frequently lack
hard data to make well-informed decisions.
Tippett, author of the groundbreaking,
annual Data Breach Investigations Report,
will discuss many misconceptions that stand
in the way of developing a risk-based
security program. He will present forensics
data from the 2008 and 2009 breach reports,
which take into account actual computer
crime investigations from 2004 to 2008.
Tippett will then apply the findings of
these reports into actionable data that CSOs
can put into practice.
BACKGROUND:
Tippett is vice president of innovation and technology for Verizon Business and is the chief scientist of the security product testing and certification organization, ICSA Labs, an independent division of Verizon Business. An information security pioneer, Tippett has led the computer security industry for more than 20 years, initially as a vendor of security products, and over the past 16 years, as a key strategist. He is widely credited with creating the first commercial anti-virus product that later became Norton AntiVirus.
The Verizon Business 2009 Data Breach Investigations Report, based on data analyzed from actual computer crime cases -- comprising 285 million compromised records from 90 confirmed breaches -- revealed corporations fell victim to some of the largest cybercrimes ever during 2008.
