Westinghouse Holds Latest Supplier Conference in United Arab Emirates

PITTSBURGH, April 21/PRNewswire/ -- Westinghouse Electric Company and its consortium partner The Shaw Group Inc., today conducted a Supplier Conference in the United Arab Emirates, the first to be held the in the Middle East.
The event was held to identify potential suppliers for its AP1000(TM) Nuclear Power Plant Global Supply Chain. As Westinghouse continues to lead the nuclear renaissance, building and maintaining a strong global supply chain is critical to providing clean, reliable nuclear energy throughout the world.
The supplier conference in Abu Dhabi was the latest in a series of supplier conferences that Westinghouse has conducted in Canada, Czech Republic, India, Republic of South Africa, and the United Kingdom. United Arab Emirates was chosen for its centralized location within the region, as well as access to potential suppliers who may already have specialized knowledge and skills in the energy sector.
During the Supplier Conference, participants were identified for later qualification in areas of work that includes:
Fabrication of construction modules
Development of a qualified and skilled supply base
Onsite erection and assembly of components
Nuclear component manufacturing
The increasing interest around the world in building new nuclear power plants reflects growing recognition that nuclear energy can play a key role in delivering safe and secure supplies of electricity with no associated emissions of carbon dioxide. As the global market for new nuclear plants grows, more attention is being given to the supply of both components and skilled people to deliver those plants.
