Retailer to host "Book Club Night" in stores nationwide April 23 featuring "The Friday Night Knitting Club" by Kate Jacobs
ANN ARBOR, Mich., April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Borders has reinvigorated and expanded its book club to offer a wide variety of intelligent titles hand-selected by the retailer's expert buyers, as well as helpful resources for those who want to start their own book clubs. To highlight the "Borders Book Club," Borders(R) and Waldenbooks(R) stores nationwide will host "Book Club Night," an in-store book discussion April 23 featuring the New York Times bestseller "The Friday Night Knitting Club" by Kate Jacobs. All readers, whether they are already in a book club, are looking to form a book club and want to connect with others in their community, or just want to spend an evening discussing "The Friday Night Knitting Club" won't want to miss this event. It kicks off at 7 p.m. with an exclusive welcome message from Jacobs, after which store staff will lead attendees in a discussion of the book. Throughout the evening customers at most Borders stores can enjoy delicious snacks and beverages from Seattle's Best Coffee including Anniversary Blend Coffee, Blackberry Creme Lattes and blueberry muffins.
The "Borders Book Club" makes it incredibly easy for customers to select the perfect books for their book clubs, whether they're looking for fiction, non-fiction, young adult books, titles geared toward kids or even books that appeal to specific types of book clubs such as men-only discussion groups. Customers need only visit their neighborhood Borders store to peruse book selections that are handpicked by Borders expert buyers and arranged on special tables at the front of stores. In addition, customers interested in starting their own book clubs but don't know where to start need look no further than the "Book Club Expert" at their local Borders location. These experts can answer questions and provide helpful tips on everything from organizing a book club and planning meetings to moderating discussions. In addition, customers can conveniently access Borders' title selections from home or work including helpful reading guides for select books at www.borders.com/bookclub.
"If you have ever lead a book club you know the hours of work that go into selecting a book - and there is no guarantee the book will ultimately be a good choice," said Kathryn Popoff, vice president of trade books for Borders. "One of the great things about our book club is that our expert buyers do the heavy lifting - they hand-pick intelligent titles each month, eliminating the guesswork many readers feel when trying to select a compelling title to read. For example, we're thrilled to feature Kate Jacobs' 'The Friday Night Knitting Club' at our book club event in our stores April 23. The book has long been a customer favorite and we are confident that even more book lovers will discover what an enriching read it is once we call their attention to it through this event."
"I'm absolutely thrilled that my novel is the first selection for the 'Borders Book Club.' It's so much fun to be a part of the book club event. There's nothing better than getting together with a group of friends to talk and laugh and just enjoy a break from the hectic day-to-day. And that's what book clubs are: friends, neighbors, colleagues -- and people-about-to-become-friends -- connecting with each other," said Kate Jacobs, author of "Comfort Food," "The Friday Night Knitting Club" and "Knit Two." "A key component to a book club is, of course, a really great read that promotes discussion and the expression of ideas."
