Increased Efforts to Assist Hospitals Managing Merger of Economic and Health Care Crises
BALTIMORE, April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- RWD Technologies, LLC (RWD), a global company that develops and implements human and organizational performance solutions, today announced a multimillion-dollar investment in its growing health care practice. The investment includes the engagement of various stakeholders about process improvements that save money and free up time for measurably better care. A key component of this effort is the signing of Michael Jhin, a 30-year hospital veteran, as an executive advisor to lead discussions throughout the hospital industry about the role that operational excellence can play to help meet the challenges hospitals face.
As part of RWD's investment, the company is developing the Lean Learning Academy, a tailored program designed to engage, empower and equip hospital executives, managers, supervisors and others in transitioning into a more efficient environment that focuses on collaborative solutions to everyday challenges.
In addition, RWD is increasing its ongoing advocacy and education efforts through strategic partnerships with the American Hospital Association, Maryland Hospital Association and Health Forum, an outlet that provides information to enhance the capacity of health care leaders to improve community health and business performance. To augment these efforts, RWD has contracted Edelman, a leading strategic public relations firm to increase awareness of the company's work in health care.
"Hospitals are at the crossroads of both the economic and financial challenges we're facing. With Jhin's experience and industry knowledge, RWD is able to help hospital CEOs face these challenges through proven approaches to process improvement that save money and give precious time back to hospital workers," said Jim Parish, executive vice president, Energy Solutions and LEAN Transformations at RWD.
RWD lean approach to process improvement focuses on helping hospitals cut through the busy work, the wasted time and effort, so their people can spend more time caring for their patients. The proven approach is already benefiting RWD clients such as St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, Main Line Health System, the University of Minnesota Medical Center, and Charleston Area Medical Center in areas of the hospital such as the Emergency Department and various Perioperative service lines. In addition, RWD's blended learning approach to nurse orientation has benefited its clients by decreasing training time while increasing skill set.
The addition of Michael Jhin, former president and CEO, and current CEO Emeritus of St. Luke's Episcopal Health System, to RWD's team will benefit its various customers through the extensive knowledge in hospital operations he brings to the table.
"More and more hospitals are finding that best practices from other industries can play a vital role in helping them find new ways to do things more efficiently and effectively by driving out wastes -- both financial and clinical -- from patient care and support processes," said Michael Jhin, executive advisor to RWD's Health Care Solutions Division. "I look forward to working with RWD to help hospitals tackle some of their toughest challenges and provide sustainable solutions that will help restore confidence and quality in our nation's hospitals."
During Michael Jhin's tenure at St. Luke's, the hospital was named one of Fortune's "100 Best Companies to Work for in America," and the top Houston employer in 2002 by the Houston Business Journal. The hospital was the first in Texas to receive the prestigious magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Jhin also oversaw the creation of the St. Luke's Episcopal Health Charities, Houston's largest philanthropic organization dedicated solely to health.
