Owens Corning's Denver Facility Receives Highest Safety Recognition From OSHA

TOLEDO, Ohio, April 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Owens Corning, a world leader in building materials and glass fiber reinforcements, today announced that its Asphalt facility in Denver, Colo., has achieved Star status under U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) for its outstanding safety programs. Star is the highest of three safety designations given by OSHA and the federal government.

VPP Star status officially recognizes the outstanding efforts of employers and employees who have achieved exemplary occupational safety and health. The recognition validates the facility's sustained safety excellence, employee involvement in safety programs and leadership support of safety initiatives.

Fewer than 2,000 of the nation's millions of worksites have earned VPP Star status. Owens Corning's Denver Asphalt facility is one of approximately 45 in the state of Colorado recognized as a Star facility, and it joins the company's Brookville, Ind. Roofing, and Linnton, Ore. Asphalt facilities in receiving this recognition.

"This is a great honor for our people in Denver, and an important recognition for Owens Corning," said Karel Czanderna, Owens Corning group president, building materials. "We believe in the principles of partnership that the Star program represents. Our commitment to safety is unconditional. Throughout all of our locations and operations, we are committed to creating a workplace that is safe, engaging and productive for all employees."

OSHA's VPP is designed as a cooperative effort among industry, workers and government to ensure safer workplaces. Applications are assessed against VPP standards for excellent safety and health systems. Applicants are selected through a review process that includes a thorough on-site evaluation performed by the Ohio Department of Labor which administers the program for OSHA.

The Denver facility celebrated the achievement with a ceremony that included the presentation of the VPP Star flag by a local OSHA representative. The celebration was attended by company leadership and state and local community leaders.
