Perot Systems to Announce New Electronic Health Records Service Offering

New Readiness Assessment service offering to be unveiled at upcoming webinar

PLANO, Texas, March 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Perot Systems (NYSE: PER) (www.perotsystems.com), a leading health IT services provider, announced an upcoming webinar during which the company will outline a new service offering that is tailored to help hospitals achieve compliance with the guidelines for "meaningful use" found in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The webinar will be held on April 1 at 10:30 a.m. Central time.

Perot Systems' new ARRA Readiness Assessment service offering helps a hospital benchmark its current processes and systems against new standards being established in response to the legislation. Using that benchmark as a basis, Perot Systems can then help the organization take a holistic view to develop a roadmap for implementation and adoption based on the unique needs of that hospital.

"While many hospitals have some form of an electronic medical records system in place, the lack of standardization and interoperability surrounding EHRs beyond an individual hospital's walls has led to a fragmented approach to adoption," said Dr. Harry Greenspun, executive vice president and chief medical officer of Perot Systems healthcare group. "As a result, many hospitals may not be able to meet the new standard of 'meaningful use' as defined by the ARRA. Our service offering is designed to help them take that next critical step."

The HITECH Act within the ARRA requires that healthcare providers become "meaningful users" of electronic health record technology by 2016 and sets aside approximately $23 billion in financial incentives through Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements to encourage adoption of an EHR system as early as 2014. The "meaningful use" requirement states that a user must, "demonstrate it is using certified EHR technology, that the technology is connected in a manner that allows for the exchange of healthcare information, and that the EHR user can effectively demonstrate the technology's 'meaningful' use."

The webinar will be held Wednesday, April 1, at 10:30 a.m. Central time (11:30 a.m. Eastern; 9:30 a.m. Mountain; 8:30 a.m. Pacific). To register for the webinar, visit www.perotsystems.com/insights. This webinar is part of an ongoing webinar series hosted by Perot Systems on important topics related to the ARRA and its impact on healthcare.
