Rising Fashion Designer Wins Online Competition to Participate in the 81st Academy Awards(R) Telecast
CHICAGO, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- America's fashionistas spoke and their
votes are tallied. In a national competition to design an original gown to be
worn by an awards presenter on the live Oscar(R) telecast, it came down to one
emerging designer Sam Kori George.
Sam Kori George, a couture designer from Chicago, was one of seven
finalists for "Oscars Designer Challenge." Model Lauren Gish wore George's
creation on the Oscar stage and during an Oscars Red Carpet 2009 pre-show
interview. It's a show-stopping, strapless, form fitting, platinum gown with
handmade orchids adorning the lower right side.
"I am honored and thrilled to win 'Oscars Designer Challenge.' My dress is
what I imagined an Oscar award escort should wear and I wanted to do justice
to the magnitude of this event," said George. "My dream is to become the next
household name as a designer."
"We conducted an emerging designer search and we're pleased to have had
designers participate from across the country in the 'Oscars Designer
Challenge,'" said Academy Awards fashion coordinator Patty Fox. "All of the
submissions were spectacular and Sam Kori George won in the great company of
talented designers."
George's name will continue to be on the map of top designers and a
designer to watch in the near future.
