ZTE Tallies Sterling Growth in Global WiMAX Market

In-Stat Report Ranks ZTE Among the 2008 Top WiMAX Equipment Vendors

SHENZHEN, China, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- ZTE Corporation ("ZTE"), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, recorded another sterling growth performance in the area of WiMAX commercial network market in 2008, according to a report entitled 'Global WiMAX Market, Takes off in 2009' released by In-Stat, a leading US research firm. The report reveals that out of the 94 new WiMAX 16e commercial networks deployed last year, ZTE had 15 of them or 16% of all the networks established worldwide, lining up the company among the top two WiMAX equipment vendors in 2008.

ZTE performed well in high-end markets including the United States and Western Europe. It has deployed 15 new commercial WiMAX networks in markets such as Asia, Africa, North and South America and Europe. According to the report, with ZTE's industry proven WiMAX terminal solutions and a significant number of commercial WiMAX networks the company is planning to install in the years to come, there is a high probability that the company can assume the number one spot as WiMAX equipment vendor worldwide.

The increasing demand for new mobile applications resulted in the rapid growth of WiMAX worldwide last year, the report added, with countries such as the United States, Japan and India pioneering WiMAX deployment. WiMAX has been growing tremendously and widely adopted globally due to its capability to provide mobile operators with high bandwidth capacity, lower operational cost, and install multiple terminals in an open environment. The technology, In-Stat predicts, will grow even more rapidly in the next five years, with subscribers reaching over 85 million by 2013.

ZTE is one of the few vendors in the world that pioneered research and development on WiMAX. As of November 2008, ZTE has already deployed more than 30 WiMAX 16e networks across different regions and countries, including Asia-Pacific, Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the Americas region.
