Aerojet's Orange Facility Celebrates Two Million Work Hours Without a Lost Time Injury
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aerojet, a GenCorp
(NYSE: GY) company, celebrated its Orange, Va. facility's "Two Million Work
Hours Without a Lost Time Injury" achievement yesterday. The record, which
began on Sept. 28, 1991, spans a 17-year interval of safe operations and was
achieved on Nov. 24, 2008. The team at Orange continues to build on this
record and is now setting their sights on achieving three million work hours.
This important safety accomplishment is the result of Aerojet's "safety
first" policy and the ongoing commitment at the Orange facility toward safety
awareness. The Management Safety Committee, which is comprised of
environmental, safety and health employees, was established in 1991 to promote
safe work habits and to further safety awareness training. Ongoing employee
training, maintaining checks and balances for standard operations and safety
reviews for all new operations prior to launching a new program have been key
to maintaining this high level of awareness and to reaching this important
safety milestone.
"I am gratified by this outstanding safety accomplishment. Along with our
hard working Safety Department, all employees at the plant are to be
commended, as this achievement could not have been met without 100 percent
employee commitment and participation. Performing our work safely is the
single most important goal we have at our facility and, at the end of the day,
this is a win/win for the employees, the company and our customers," said
Brian Wheatley, director of plant operations at the Orange facility.
