Lilly employees to donate needed supplies to several local service agencies
INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Employees of locally based
Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY) are participating in a national civic
engagement effort that kicks off Monday, January 19, in coordination with the
Martin Luther King holiday.
Lilly is a sponsor of "I AM CHANGE," a campaign that seeks to answer the
call to service issued by President-Elect Barack Obama to meet the critical
needs of the environment, education and the economy during this challenging
time in our nation's history. Other corporate sponsors are The Coca-Cola
Company, Delta Air Lines, Federal Express, Kellogg Foundation, KPMG and Nike.
U.S. employees from more than 100 departments at Lilly have been engaged
in service projects to collect supplies for local community organizations
where the stock of essential supplies has been depleted due to the challenging
economy.
These supplies include staple foods such as rice, pasta and peanut butter,
toiletry and household items, warm clothing and outerwear, as well as gently
used eyeglasses for re-use. Social service agencies in Central Indiana that
will benefit from these donations include Second Helpings, Goodwill, the
Julian Center, the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation, Gleaners Food Bank
and many others. The collective impact of Lilly's donations will be packaged
by the Points of Light Institute and delivered as an inaugural "gift' to
President-elect Obama.
